What do I need to get into aromatherapy?

Answer by Katie
The easiest would be to check amazon.com to find what you need or atleast get an idea of what to buy. Natural or Essential Oils work best. There is a metaphysical publishing company online and in stores such as Border’s and Barn’s and Noble called Llewellyn, one of the topics they publish is aromatherapy, they also have a website. Many metaphysical shops sell oils and oil burners. Or if you are not really into that, you could buy the more commerical air fresheners, I am not sure how well they work.

go to http://soapgoods.com they have everything you’ll need from essential oils to lotion base to shampoo base etc etc. I would suggest getting books on essential oils, some oils are not good for kids and some are not good for people with certain medical conditions like high blood pressure and epilepsy. Be careful when buying oils and make sure that they are 100% pure essential oils and not fragrance oils. Essential oils can be quite costly. The Aromatherapy Bible by Gill Farrer-Halls is a good book as is Aromatherapy Handbook for beauty, hair and skin care by Erich Keller. You are going to need glass vials (not clear) and glass eye droppers to mix your oils in. It can be expensive but it’s well worth the initial cost.
I love Aura Cacia oils. You can google them or find them at most good health food stores. Stay away from smaller essential oil companies until you get to know the oils better. Some smaller companies adulterate the oils. Don’t buy anything labeled as fragrance oil- they don’t have the healing properties of true essential oils. Any bookstore will have at least one or two good books on aromatherapy- often in the bargain section!
